Wasting Ink on James Milner
I really, really hope that when I wake up in the morning, James Milner will be wearing powder blue to warm Manchester City's bench, and the Villa will be swimming in gold. But until that happens, here's a fun little linky round up:
The craziness of today/yesterday (depending on your time zone) began with Martin O'Neill having a yap before the match against Valencia. The official site tells us what he said. (By the way, MON in a suit? He's looking dapper. I'm all for the classy duds if he can still prowl the touchline).
The twitter-verse set itself on fire with a tweet from Daniel Taylor of The Guardian.
Taylor then went on to write about how Citeh were using Stephen Ireland as bait. Bait? Villa just want to be rid of Milner, at this point. If you're going to throw in Ireland as well, why would that offer be refused?
Then, of course, the BBC jumped in and repeated Martin O'Neill's words, but they're still listing the possibility of getting Ireland as a rumor.
Please, God, let there be something shiny for me to wake up to.

With £24m you could add an extra £6m and buy Bastian Schweinsteiger

That would imply that City give a shit about getting th best player rather than making the biggest splash.

The kid Chelsea signed from Benfica would fit really well in at Villa too. £18m

I'm increasingly of the opinion that Lerner told MON that he had a few years to get a core in place
and that from then on out the spending would be reigned in. Which is smart for a lot of reasons, but kind of a bummer given the circumstances.

Daniel Taylor...
is rivaling Stuart James for “most annoying reporter currently employed by the Guardian.” It could be just because his beat is covering the activities of two intensely dislikable clubs (Citeh and United), but he gets on my nerves like nobody’s business.
Well in your defense he does appear to be kind of a prat

I know, right?
I mean, I love The Guardian. It has some of the best football coverage on the internet. So maybe it’s because I love it so much that people like Taylor and James (and some others too) get under my nerves sometimes.

Don't get the Ireland obsession
He’s great sometimes but most of the time he’s completely irrelevant.

I wouldn't judge him by last year when he was unfit
Two years ago he was rightly City’s player of the year.

Two years ago City finished tenth and went out early in both cups.

Two years ago they didn't have
Tevez, Bellamy, Silva et al. And didn’t they make the UEFA Cup quarters that year (I know its only the UEFA Cup but still).

Which is exactly my point.
He was named player of the year in a mid-level club two years ago and has been mediocre with occasional flashes of brilliance since.
