Michael Owen to Villa?
I've seen rumors of a £6 million bid in January - seems like a lot for an oft-injured 30 year old. Thoughts?

That it's highly unlikely
I can’t see why we’d need Michael Owen. At all.

I don't see this happening either.
The thing is though, and I can’t even believe that I am saying this, that it might not be all that terrible of an idea. We need at least three decent forwards at any given time (unless we switch to playing two strikers as opposed to playing Ashley in the hole, in which case that number is four.) Gabby is one. Delfouneso is one (at least in my estimation.) But Carew has been absolute garbage so far this year and Heskey is Heskey.
There are almost certainly better options, but if things continue as they have so far this year, it’s a position of real need and £6 million isn’t a massive sum. Owen is better than everyone except Gabby at this point and I’m predicting a switch back to two strikers once Houllier arrives.
I’m not sure I want it to happen, but it wouldn’t be as terrible as it would have sounded say a month ago.

I agree that we need another striker.
But I’d much rather bring in a cheaper continental talent or give the Fonz a legit look before pulling the trigger on Owen. Don’t get me wrong, his finishing would probably be better than anyone we currently have on the first team (when he’s actually on the pitch). But at this point in his career, there’s no way we’d recoup any of the investment through a future sale – his contract would end up being an albatross just like Heskey’s, Beye’s, Sidwell’s, etc.
As a side note, it’s interesting that there were links between Owen and Villa even when MON was still in charge. Something tells me the press would like to see this move happen more than anyone associated with the club.
