A fresh January morning and the news reports are flying in. It also appears that Nigel Reo-Coker hasn't gone ginger but instead may be on his way to Newcastle, but the idea that the Villa really want to swap NRC for Joey Barton makes me roll my eyes, so I'm not addressing it here. Although after his play against Sheffield United, I'd rather Reo-Coker go away.
According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa have had a £2.5 million bid for Charlie Adam rejected. Again, not sure why we're approaching midfielders when we already have a Scottish central midfielder (does Gerard Houllier hate me? Discuss). I love Charlie Adam but can we work on defense or striker, please? You know, high-priority items? Although even being able to spend money is a plus.
Next up, everyone's favorite Ligue 1 midfielder, Stéphane Sessegnon, appears to be headed to Sunderland. He doesn't fit a need at Villa, but sending him to a team that just beat us does not make me happy, either. The PSG midfielder flew up to look at the Stadium of Light and if the £5 million deal goes smoothly, may be playing in the derby against Newcastle this weekend. Incidentally, why does the Second City derby coincide with this one every time?
Finally, West Bromwich Albion are eager to sign John Carew in the next couple weeks, something that will likely make Stiliyan Petrov quite unhappy. But Houllier, if you're letting go of a striker, go find another. Or a left back whose name is not Wayne Bridge (or at least without Bridge's wages). Or even examine defensive midfielders if you're not going to move Ciaran Clark back up. Don't make me stop wearing my Viva la Revolution tee shirt.
