Aston Villa Manager Watch: Club WILL Interview Alex McLeish

Hate him as you will, but he's won more trophies than Villa have recently. He might not be the worst thing in the world.

Aston Villa will meet with former Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish according to a statement released by the club this afternoon. It's as if Board read what Aaron wrote and followed it to a T. Despite growing anger amongst the fan base, the people in charge have decided that it might be logical to consider every option given to them. The money quote is this:

We would, however, like to emphasise that in deciding to interview Alex McLeish, the Board has taken his tenure at our local rivals and the strong emotions associated with this very seriously.

We are determined, still, not to allow that three-and-a-half year post to disqualify him should he be the best candidate for the role of Aston Villa manager.

This is the best argument I've read against proposed protests and all of the whining that has cropped up in the past week. If we all are, as we say, Villa til We Die, why wouldn't we want what is best for the club, regardless of its origin? But it should be emphasized that the Villa board have not done everything perfectly in their search for a new manager.

Star-divide

The process has dragged on too long, I think. We should have had a manager earlier, and there should be a bit more apparent organization. I say "apparent" because none of us know what is actually happening. Perhaps there is a plan, but at this point it is not readily obvious. I will continue to lend the board, and specifically Randy Lerner, the benefit of the doubt. That said, I hope we see something soon. But that's as much for the welfare of the club as the fact that I'm sick and tired of hearing about our manager situation. When does actual soccer start again?
