Today's two matches will be hard-pressed to live up to the incredible quarterfinals from this past weekend. Nevertheless, they will be played. In the first match, two teams who advanced on penalty kicks face off as France takes on the miracle-of-the-moment United States. The United States are the favorite, but as a soccer fan, I've learned to take nothing for granted. Sweden was the only team to have an easy go of it in the quarterfinals, so they may have the advantage of rest, but Japan's squad play like a well-oiled machine.
It should be a fun day of soccer, and I hope you all join us in the comments below! Sadly, there will be neither vuvuzelas nor Diego Maradona. But there will be great soccer!

It’s new! And no, I’m not just shelling for SBN. I promise. (here)
He is from England!
How can he make such a joke with a straight face?

Bahahaha.
I was going to try and mention that in my comment, but then the goal happened.

On-target long range shots are always entertaining.
So, not you Stiliyan, if you’re reading this.

Bob Ley in Frankfurt, and Mike Tirico in Sandwich.
All they need to do is cut to someone in Hamburg.

Also on ESPN3 right now: a 9th grade girls basketball High School showcase.
The demographic numbers on those watching would probably terrify parents.
It's like a game thread from the season.
Everything starts well. It gets joke-y. Then something stupid happens.

So I know that stats lie and I'm unfit to comment since I can't watch this game
but it’s kind of tough to win if you’re being outshot 3-1 and the opponent is putting those shots on goal at a rate of 7-1.
Totally got that joke out on here before Ives.

I think it's just that I actually like the team

Well that's a pretty solid reason.
I didn’t get to yell, sadly. So I just waved my arms above my head like a damn fool.

I'm entirely unsure for whom I am rooting here.
Sweden gives the US the chance of revenge for group play. But Japan gives the US the chance of revenge for Pearl Harbor.
It really was.
Sweden scares me in the final.
