Eric Lichaj Could End Up At Leeds Again If Aston Villa Let Him Go

This is not Eric Lichaj. But this photo is hilarious. Plus Lichaj did the damage so...

According to the ever-reliable and always ahead of the game Sky Sports, Leeds United want to bring Eric Lichaj back on loan next season -- provided, of course, that Aston Villa allow him to leave. Which clearly the Villa will want to do. They are certainly flush for defenders, and each and every member of the defense is known for staying perfectly healthy. Not once did a midfielder slot in at defense last season. Our back line? Perfect. In no need of reinforcement.

Star-divide

Right. I don't think anyone needs to go dry Aaron's tears at this moment. We all know we need to keep our youngsters around, particularly if Villa aren't going to bring in any more defenders. There's no point in sending Lichaj off on loan at the beginning of the season, having had no time, really, to consider how he'll slot in. And Leeds only want him if it will be a full year.

Curious, though, that Simon Grayson mentioned nothing about re-capturing the services of Barry Bannan. Was Bazza really that horrible at Leeds? Is he truly a sass, or worse? Or is it the knowledge that Alex McLeish will definitely want to keep his young Scot?

So what think you? Should we keep Lichaj around as cover? Should we let him try to earn a place in the first team? Or is it best to let him keep playing consistently with a Championship side?

Oh definitely send him away.

How can that possibly be detrimental to a team desperate for back line depth?

This can only lead two ways:
1) The media are absolute twunts (see Fabian Delph stories today)
2) If this is true, dear God are Villa stupid.

Got to keep him

Got to keep him especially at the beginning of the season, we are not so well covered at the back that we can afford to send even one of our promising youngsters away on loan.

Keep him

He was actually starting to play pretty well with the USMNT. With the lack of depth on the back line, I don’t think it’s insane to assume that Villa is going to need him at some point, and from what I’ve seen, the more he plays, the better he performs.

Bannan

Didn’t have enough time to fit in last year. He had great technical ability, and could pick a pass but he was not what we needed at the time and he was also played out of position.

Doubt he’d want to come back, too, he was hardly given a fair run.
