Joe Bennett was taken off on a stretcher after seemingly injuring his knee in the 76th minute of Sunday's match against Tottenham Hotspur. The extent of the injury is not yet known.
In the 76th minute of Sunday's match against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane, Joe Bennett slid to get the ball from Gareth Bale, got tangled in Bale's legs, and crashed into the advertising boards near Aston Villa's goal. It didn't look too abnormal when the play occurred, but Brad Guzan walked over to Bennett and quickly began signaling for physios to come check out the Villa defender. There was hope that Bennett would get up and rejoin the match, but that was quickly dashed as the medics brought the stretcher out to carry Bennett off. Here's what the play looked like:
We have yet to hear the extent of Bennett's injury, but usually when someone hurts their knee and is stretchered off, they're out for a while. Villa have some options to cover for Bennett, including Eric Lichaj, but this is definitely a blow to the team, as Bennett has looked solid in his starts for Villa thus far.
Really, though, I just hope Bennett is okay for his own sake. Get well soon.
