Carew getting live action is an excellent sign because despite his poor form early on in the season Villa need as much help up front as they can get. Both the big man and Pires played about 60 minutes which says some encouraging things about where they are in terms of fitness.
As far as the game itself, the reserves drew 1-1 with West Brom, Villa's goal coming from Nathan Delfouneso on an Eric Lichaj throw in.
