Aston Villa have allegedly contacted Fulham to say that Mark Hughes is not their managerial target. Highest bets are on former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti to take over.

Rumor has it that Mark Hughes will leave Fulham on Thursday in order to accept the manager position at Aston Villa. The club confirmed on Wednesday that Gerard Houllier was leaving Villa.

I was in the process of writing a post about how Villa are screwed. Mark Hughes would be competent, but not lead Villa to any sort of greatness and not stop the hemorrhaging of our top players. As I examined his career more carefully my view softened and my post was ruined. Maybe given time and backing he can lead us forward if he is indeed the guy. Still not my first choice.
